Frequently asked questions
How does All-On-4 work?
All-On-4 uses four dental implants in the upper or lower jaw to support a fixed full-arch bridge. This provides a secure set of replacement teeth that stay in place and are cleaned much like natural teeth.
How long does the procedure take?
For most people, the main All-On-4 surgery takes about 3–4 hours per arch. You will have a follow-up visit to fit your new fixed teeth.*
How long is recovery?
Most people are able to resume many day-to-day activities in about one to two weeks*. Full post-surgery healing generally takes around 3–6 months for the implants to fully integrate with your jawbone. During this time, you can usually eat soft foods and gradually return to your usual routine.
When will I get my new teeth?
Your first fixed set of teeth is usually fitted very soon after surgery, often within about 24 hours during a short review appointment. The timing can vary depending on your case and healing.*
How long will I need to take off work?
Many patients like to plan a few days off work after surgery, especially in the first week while swelling and tiredness settle. The exact time off depends on your job and how you feel after the procedure.*
Am I eligible?
All-On-4 may suit people with several missing or failing teeth, or those fed up with loose or uncomfortable dentures. It can sometimes be an option even if you’ve been told you’re not suitable for traditional implants due to bone loss, but a personalised assessment is needed. You can assess your preliminary suitability by taking our 1-Min Eligibility Quiz.
Will I need bone grafting?
Often, no. One of the advantages of All-On-4 is that the implants are placed at specific angles to maximise contact with your existing bone, which can reduce the need for bone grafting in many cases. Whether this applies to you is decided after your 3D scan and assessment.
How many teeth do you get with All-On-4 implants?
In most cases, 12–14 teeth are used per arch (upper or lower). The exact number is planned individually, based on your bite and smile line.
Do I need to be "put to sleep" for the procedure?
No. All-On-4 can be done under local anaesthetic, or with IV “sleep dentistry” (IV sedation) for people who are more anxious. IV sedation is given by a qualified doctor and your procedure is usually completed at Bexley Dental, without a hospital stay.
How much does All-On-4 cost and do you have payment plans?
The overall fee depends on your treatment plan and the type of teeth you choose. Our pricing section details the cost of the surgery ($14,999) and the typical ranges for the different tooth options (from $3,999 to $17,999 per arch). We can discuss payment plan options and superannuation release at your assessment.*
*Recovery times, suitability and treatment plans vary from person to person.
